Important Information about Alumni Email Accounts/Google Workspace

Access to alumni Google Workspace accounts (including Gmail inbox, Google Drive files, Photos, contacts, and calendar) will end February 15, 2026. Learn more here. 

Update: Deadline for Sunsetting Kean Alumni Accounts Extended to February 15, 2026  

Dear Kean Alumni, 

We are reaching out with an important update about Kean Alumni Google accounts which have provided @kean.edu email addresses and storage for alumni. After careful consideration and alignment with many of our peer institutions, Kean will discontinue this service. 

As previously communicated, service was set to end effective January 15, 2026. Based on alumni feedback and concerns, we are extending this deadline to February 15, 2026, to provide extra time for this transition. 

Why This Change? 

Kean University has transitioned to Microsoft 365. Alumni Google Workspace accounts, many of which are not frequently used, have become targets for phishing and spam, creating significant cybersecurity risks. By focusing our resources on current systems, Kean can better protect our community and continue providing reliable support. 

What This Means for You: 

  • Access to your Google Workspace account (including Gmail inbox, Google Drive files, Photos, contacts, and calendar) will end; This discontinuation was originally scheduled for January 15, 2026, and is now extended to February 15, 2026, to allow more time for transition. 
  • After this date, data stored in Google will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. 
  • We strongly encourage you to transition to a personal email provider (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud, Yahoo, etc.) as soon as possible. 
  • If you need to request your Kean transcript, please visit the Registrar’s Office website for instructions.  

CRITICAL: Back Up Your Data Before February 15th, 2026. 

If you have files in Google Drive, photos in Google Photos, or emails you want to keep: 

  • Download your Google Drive files using Google Drive for Desktop. 
  • Download your photos and emails using Google Takeout. 
  • Large accounts may take days to download - start immediately if you have significant data. 

Your Next Steps: 

  1. Download your data before February 15th, 2026 using the links above. 
  2. Update your email address on any platforms that use your @kean.edu email (LinkedIn, Handshake, etc.). 
  3. Update your contact information with the Office of Alumni Relations to ensure you continue receiving Kean news and updates: Alumni Secondary Email. 

Support Deadline: All data must be downloaded by February 15th, 2026.
